EXPLANATION OF SPECIFIC TESTS

Bio Terrain Metabolic Assessment - urine

Simple and inexpensive, this urine collection helps reveal the status of the nutritional and biological terrain of the body. This system is a collection of over 15 tests that checks the pH, intestinal health, antioxidant needs, status of specific minerals and vitamins. Samples are taken in the privacy of your home and mailed to the lab for analysis; results are faxed to our office within 72 hours.

Children often have nutritional deficiencies. Some eat well and some don't. Some children do not absorb what they eat. Toxic stressors also can affect children of all ages, from infancy throughout childhood. These issues can contribute to:

  • Constipation or diarrhea
  • Mood swings, depression
  • Hyperactivity, anxiety
  • Fatigue
  • Insomnia
  • Poor growth
  • Developmental delays
  • Oppositional behavior
  • Excessive thirst
  • Excess sweating
  • Food cravings
  • Limited diets
Discussing the results of this test with an individual or parent enables us make suggestions that are simple to administer to children and teens:
  • Nutritional supplements to replenish the deficiencies
  • Botanicals - liquids or caps
  • Homeopathics - drops or sprays
  • Pertinent foods for the individual
People experience faster symptom relief, improved digestion, better immunity, and balanced mental and physical energy. Metabolic balance is our goal.

Each component of the test provides of piece of the puzzle, which viewed collectively, presents important clues about your vitamin, mineral, and antioxidant needs. We have found that most people really appreciate knowing what their nutritional needs are and what their individual solutions are.

A comprehensive report which covers and explains the results are included as part of the test. Testing can easily be done by mail, by simply sending off a sample of the urine to the lab for testing. The report can be sent by email or mail and discussed on the telephone or in person.

Hormone Panels - Saliva

Hormone Saliva Test. Hormones exert a powerful influence over all physical, intellectual and emotional behavior. They can affect problems with:
  • Moods
  • Hyperactivity
  • Focus
  • Memory
  • Fatigue or lack of endurance
  • Weight
  • Sleep
  • Digestion
  • Blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • Cravings and addictions
  • Sexual dysfunctions or precocious puberty
  • Allergies and immune weakness
Endocrine problems lead to a wide spectrum of symptoms that in most cases can be reversed using natural methods.

Children, teens, PMS sufferers, and high school athletes usually experience significant health changes due to stress and adrenal insufficiency. Many of the conditions associated with depression, anxiety, mood swings, focus and stress can be corrected with natural endocrine and nutrient creams, and/or nutritional therapies.

The CHILDREN'S HORMONE PANEL (under age 13) includes a 24 hour test of Adrenal stress hormones, Cortisol and DHEA, as well as sex hormones, Estradiol, Progesterone, Testosterone, and electrolytes: sodium, potassium, chloride, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus. Many children with AD/HD, autism, asthma, acne and behavior problems also benefit from hormone testing and subsequent natural programs.

The CIRCADIAN HORMONE PANEL for Men, Women or Children is designed to give the practitioner an understanding of the current hormonal status over a 24 hour period. All panels measure Estradiol, Progesterone, Testosterone, Cortisol, DHEA and electrolytes: sodium, potassium and chloride. Helpful for PMS, body building, menopause, male menopause, precocious puberty.

HOW TO: Specific instructions are included in the test kit. The canister contains plastic tubes, each of which contains a piece of cotton. The test is performed by chewing on the piece of cotton covered with a sterile plastic sleeve (salivate) and saturating it with saliva. Collecting the saliva for young children can by done easily with a small suction device. This is done every 4 hours beginning at 8am. Once the salivette is full, it can then be placed in the freezer until the entire test is complete. There is a questionnaire included with the test. Send all the tubes and the questionnaire express mail back to the lab in the canister. It takes 10 to 14 business days process the test and to receive the results back. A copy of the results will be faxed or mailed to you.

GI Pathogen Screen - Stool

The GI Health Panel is a non-invasive screen of the gastro-intestinal tract and its function. It includes at least 15-22 individual, but related tests. The GI Pathogen Screen tests for bowel/tissue infections that may be responsible for compromised digestion, absorption, nutritional deficiencies, allergies and toxicity.

Pathogens are everywhere: yeast, candida, mold, bacteria, staph, strep, worms and parasites. These pathogens can cause nutritional deficiencies, produce toxins, and lead to long term problems.

GI Pathogen Screen - Saliva tests for sensitivities to gluten, casein (dairy), egg and soy. Advantages of this test:

  • Non-invasive sampling: saliva and stool
  • Home collection: no office visit
  • Comprehensive: detects a broad spectrum of common pathogens and includes digestion efficiency evaluation
  • Improved wellness: general GI complaints identified and resolved
  • Modular: retesting of one or several abnormal findings is available without repeating the entire panel
This test is suggested for kids with:
  • Diarrhea
  • Constipation
  • Gas and bloating
  • Stomach aches
  • Malabsorption or undigested food in stool
  • Eczema
  • Psoriasis
  • History of thrush, colic, giardia, strep, staph, or yeast infections
  • Food allergies
  • Sinusitis
  • Asthma or respiratory infections
It is especially recommended for children who attend daycare or who frequently eat school meals.

Neurotransmitter Testing (Brain Chemistry) - Saliva & Urine

Analysis can now provide precise information about brain chemistry -- neurotransmitter deficiencies or overloads, as well as help nutrient imbalances that influence hormones and brain function. Brain chemistry is affected by stress, diet, and the environment. It is individual, thus requiring individual solutions.

This test measures the brain chemicals associated with:

  • ADD, ADHD
  • Autism
  • Growth issues
  • Fatigue
  • Depression
  • Mood swings
  • Insomnia
  • Unexplained fears
  • Inability to handle stress
  • Living in "fight or flight"
  • Behavioral problems
The brain chemicals tested are dopamine, serotonin, GABA and epinephrine, norepinephrine as well as cortisol:
  • Serotonin helps to relieve stress, balance sleep, and relax the body. It is also your body's natural anti-depressant.
  • GABA is another brain chemical associated with insomnia, anxiety, depression, and mood swings. Proper balance leads to a calming, "feel good" effect.
  • Dopamine is necessary for relaxation and mental alertness.
  • Epinephrine and norepinephrine are both stress hormones released in response to a perceived threat and have been related to blood pressure, heart rate, hyperactivity and anxiety.
  • Cortisol, the adrenal stress hormone assists the body to deal with stressors and ensures that the brain and the body receive adequate, balanced energy. Imbalances can reveal fatigue, hyperactivity, and blood sugar issues.

Testing helps to determine exactly which neurotransmitter levels are out of balance and which therapies are needed for an individualized treatment plan. It also assists in monitoring the effectiveness of an individual's current treatment.

Toxic/Heavy Metals Testing - Urine

The Toxic/Heavy Metals Testing monitors levels of toxic metals such as aluminum, arsenic, cadmium, lead, and mercury and other special elements or minerals. Some elements can accumulate in tissues causing toxic effects. Metal toxicity is a significant environmental health concern. A toxic load of lead, cadmium, mercury or arsenic is capable of rendering considerable damage to the brain and nervous system, particularly in children.

Some children have hidden toxins from accumulated offenders:

  • Vaccinations - preservatives, toxic metals - can contain mercury, lead, cadmium, antimony or aluminum.
  • Prescription drugs, including antibiotics
  • OTC drugs, baby aspirin, cough meds, Tylenol
  • Foods contaminated with pesticides, fertilizers
  • Food preservatives, food colorings, additives
  • Inhaled industrial or automotive fumes
  • Exposure to toxic household products that seem harmless
  • Sluggish body elimination Toxic or heavy metals can cause or contribute to:
    • Hyperactivity, fidgetiness
    • Learning disabilities
    • ADD/ADHD
    • Developmental delays
    • Autism
    • Slower growth rate
    • Lowered IQ
    • Allergies
    • Respiratory weakness
    • Seizures
    • Unexplained fears
    • Depression
    • Mood swings
    • Insomnia, nightmares
    • Nightmares
    • Gastric distress
    • Weight problems
This is an important test to determine the accumulation from vaccinations and other toxins.

    Adrenal Stress Index Test

    1. The test is non-invasive & can be performed wherever you are. 2. Saliva is collected under real life conditions. There are no stressful blood draws and no gallon sized urine containers to carry around for 24 hours. 3. With blood and urine testing, a number of borderline adrenal conditions are missed due to lack of sensitivity. This is not the case with the ASITM because samples are taken within one circadian cycle (over 24 hours) and the more definitive free fraction is measured. 4. The ASITM is an in-depth test, such that options for treatment are expanded by 400-500% over serum and urine test results.

    Abnormal adrenal rhythm can influence:

    • Energy Production
    • Bone Health
    • Immune System Health
    • Sleep Quality
    • Skin Regeneration
    • Thyroid and Metabolic Function
    • Muscle and Joint Health

Do you need the ASITM Test?

The ASITM is mostly ordered for individuals that suffer from:
    • Chronic stress and related health problems
    • Lack of vitality and energy
    • Muscle and joint pain
    • Hypoglycemia
    • Migraine headaches
    • Osteoporosis
    • Sleep disturbances
    • Poor memory or focus
    • Alcohol intolerance
    • Low sex drive
    • Low body temperature
    • Irritability and anxiety
    • Depression and mood swings
    • Weight control problems

The Adrenal Stress IndexTM can explain excessive feelings of tiredness and inability to cope.

The Adrenal Stress IndexTM is used to help eliminate craving for excessive calories and to help you build and maintain muscle mass.

The Adrenal Stress IndexTM reveals both the strength of your immune system and your ability to digest wheat and other gluten grains, safely.

    Some cases of rheumatoid arthritis

    Other
    Water retention
    Weight gain
    Eczema
    Hives
    Rashes
    Excess perspiration

Allergic reactions to common foods such as milk, wheat, corn, soy, citrus, tomatoes and peanuts may be mistakenly attributed to passing viral infections or recurrent "colds". The relationship between the many common symptoms (including fatigue, headache, anxiety, as well as itchy runny nose and puffy eyelids) and the allergies that cause them, may go unrecognized for years.

Increased stress, recurrent infections or declining health may add to the burden of chronic allergies. Over the years, arthritis, gastrointestinal disorders, autoimmune disease, eczema, and migraines, to name a few serious conditions linked with food allergies, can develop into chronic conditions if the offending allergens are not discovered and removed from the diet.

    Hair Analysis

Hair is ideal tissue for sampling and testing. First, it can be cut easily and painlessly, and can be sent to the lab without special handling requirements. Second, clinical results have shown that a properly obtained sample can give an indication of mineral status and toxic metal accumulation following long term or even acute exposure. This report confirmed the findings of other studies in the U.S. and abroad, which concluded that human hair may be a more appropriate tissue than blood or urine for studying community exposure to some trace elements.

Why Should My Child Do a Hair Analysis?

    1. If your child has been Vaccinated -- to reveal any metal toxicity
    2. If your child is autistic
    3. If your child is AD/HD Hyperactive or attention focus problems
    4. If your child has learning disabilities
    5. If your child has allergies
    6. If your child complaints about being fatigued
    7. If your child has lots of tooth cavities
    8. If your child has problems with depression
    9. If your child has learning disabilities

What can be detected by hair analysis?

    • Heavy Metals (lead, cadmium, aluminum, mercury, arsenic)
    • Mineral Deficiency
    • Metabolic syndrome
    • Iron Deficiency
    • Fatigue and adrenal problems

Hair tissue mineral analysis (HTMA) is an analytical test which measures the mineral content of the hair. The sampled hair, obtained by cutting the first inch and one-half of growth closest to the scalp at the nape of the neck, is prepared in a licensed clinical laboratory through a series of chemical and high temperature digestive procedures. Testing is then performed using highly sophisticated detection equipment and methods to achieve the most accurate and precise results.
